The first of three types of energy audits is the In-Home Energy Survey, which can be performed by anyone who takes the HESP training and registers with a RESNET Home Energy Survey Provider. This course is designed to address all the skills listed in Section 705 of the 2006 Mortgage Industry National HERS Standards and to prepare the student to take the RESNET online Home Energy Survey Professional test. Additionally, the training will include all aspects of the survey that will be included in the report and the report format. Students will learn many of the fundamental aspects of building science, application of those principles for actual onsite inspections, and the required aspects of the In-Home Survey report. Upon completion of this course, you should understand and be able to apply the knowledge to practical situations in the field in the following areas: Heat transfer concepts. Building performance testing. Air distribution leakage. Calculating gross and net areas. Measuring building dimensions. Definitions, energy terminology, and energy units. Combustion appliance concerns. Envelope leakage, thermal bypass, and thermal bridging. Defining the thermal boundary. Envelope insulation. HVAC equipment efficiencies. Household appliance efficiencies. Inspected features of the home. Specifications. Window and door efficiencies. Building orientation and shading characteristics.
