LH Associate FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

If I become an associate for GWS, will you be referring clients
    in my area to me?

Upon completion of the training, you will be given an application form to submit to GWS for approval. If you are approved as an associate, your contact information and local area served will be listed on the GWS website. We refer all potential LEED builders to view the list of approved Associates and choose the most appropriate Associate for their project.

Do I have to charge the builder a set fee for my services?

The GWS Associate relationship allows you to set your own fee structure. You decide how much to charge builders for your services. GWS offers many services available to you and we have discounted some of the fees for Associates who sign up with GWS on a yearly basis.

Does GWS training make me a LEED for Homes Provider?
No. Only USGBC can appoint LEED-H Providers. After GWS training, you will be able to work through GWS to get homes certified by USGBC. This training is not transferable to other Providers.

I have already taken the RESNET Green Rater training. Doesn’t this      automatically qualify me to be an LH Associate?

While the RESNET Green Rater Training will qualify you for a discount on GWS training, it does not automatically make you an LH Associate. This training was developed to teach you the LEED for Homes process as well as on-site verification items, documentation and certification requirements needed to register and certify a LEED Home with GWS.

Is GWS a certified USGBC education provider?

This GWS training sessions is not USGBC training, this is GWS Provider Training to become an LH Associate, which is the responsibility of each LEED for Homes Provider. And at present, USGBC does not have the requirements or training of the LH Associate defined or developed. Each LEED for Homes Provider must train and QA their LH Associates. This training is an opportunity for you to be an LH Associate with GWS as your
Provider.

After this training, can I issue a LEED Certificate to my Project?

Truly USGBC is the one who issues a Certificate of Certification for a LEED Home. However, the LEED for Homes program uses Providers to train and provide Quality Assurance of Green Raters who do all the certification process. Everyone who wants to get a home Certified with USGBC must work through a Provider. GWS is a Provider offering training to professionals so that they can send homes to USGBC for LEED certification for their clients.

I am a LEED A.P. Architect. Can I design LEED components in a project      and also verify them for certification?

If you are part of creating the design of LEED items (example: Management of runoff from roof, an intricate water catchment system) you are no longer considered a third party of the project and cannot verify items on-site. You can, however, offer LEED consulting to builders so they adequately meet LEED certification thresholds and still remain removed enough to verify items as a true third party. More about this issue is discussed in training session 2, and can be further explained by phone or email to GWS.
